Queen Anne’s County was formed from Kent and Talbot counties in 1706. Its history includes the Kent Island trading settlement established in 1631, farming and milling communities, and waterfront places connected by boats and later railways.

Kent Island is part of Queen Anne’s County, not neighboring Kent County. Today, island neighborhoods, Centreville and the northern county’s smaller towns offer different settings, with museums and public landscapes connecting residents to local history.
